Brief History of Worksman
Cycles
Dear Web Surfer
You have discovered the Web Site of Worksman Trading Corporation,
Manufacturer of Worksman Cycles. We certainly hope you will take
a few moments to browse our web site. 1998 marks our 100th anniversary,
making us one of the world's oldest bike manufacturers. Our story
is unique, as we do not make ordinary bicycles. We hope you will
take a moment or two to learn more about our company.
Worksman Cycles roots go back to 1898 when a Russian immigrant
named Morris Worksman took an interest in the use of human powered
cycles as a means of moving merchandise in the streets of lower
Manhattan. Morris had a retail store in New York City where he
sold various hard goods including bicycles, a fairly new item
at the time. He noticed that the horse and buggy was the main
means that local merchants used for delivery to their customers.

It was then the concept of the Worksman Business Cycle was
born. Morris Worksman saw an opportunity to make cycles which
were heavy duty enough to carry significant payloads. Now fast
forwarding to the early 1930s, Morris and his three children
now entered the business and began promoting his Worksman Business
Cycles to Ice Cream Companies as vending vehicles. The first
major customer which came on board was Good Humor Ice Cream.
Pretty soon, the Good Humor Man on his Worksman Ice Cream Tricycle
was a common sight in neighborhoods across America. The jingling
bells and the shiny Worksman Good Humor Ice Cream Tricycle was
welcome vision to children wanting a special ice cream treat.

The next market which Worksman Cycles developed was the Industrial
Bike Market, that is human powered cycles which could be used
by large facilities as a means of transporting personnel. Somewhere
in the late 1930s companies such as General Motors, Ford, Bethlehem
Steel and others started using Worksman Business Cycles at their
respective factories and quickly discovered that workers could
get from place to place efficently on their Worksman Cycles.
Mechanics could carry tools, foreman could make their rounds
and mail could be delivered efficiently and reliably on these
sturdy Worksman vehicles.
Today, Worksman Cycles is recognized as the World Leader in
the Field of Industrial Grade Cycles. Our customer list reads
like Who's Who of International Businesses. More than ever, companies
realize the cost savings benefits of using Worksman Business
Cycles at their facilities. However, there is much more that
we offer.

In the mid 1970s, we started to produce specialty bikes for
the consumer market, with emphasis on Adult Tricycles. We offer
a very comprehensive selection of Adult Trikes, Tandems and Cruisers
which you will see throughout the web site. Worksman Cruiser
Bikes are proudly owned by those seeking bikes of a unique nature
and certainly more heavy duty than conventional consumer bikes.
Our Tricycles are popular with Active Seniors as well as those
with physical disabilities. Our all new PAV3 Personal Activity
Vehicle is sure to set a new standard for Adult Three Wheel cycles.

Finally, we didn't forget our roots. The Good Humor Ice Cream
Tricycle is just one of many Food Vending Cycle products which
we still make today. In fact, Worksman offers a wide selection
of mobile food vending products including Hot Dog Pushcarts and
trailers, Ice Cream Carts and Coffee carts. Many entrepeneurs
across the USA and abroad use these shiny stainless steel Mobile
food carts as a means of making their living.
Under the current ownership of Jeffery Mishkin (who is married
to Morris Worksman's Granddaughter Barbara) and Wayne Sosin,
we continue to strive to make the best heavy duty and specialty
cycles in the World. We hope you enjoy learning more about Worksman
Cycles as you review our product pages.
All of us at Worksman Cycles appreciate your interest and
look forward to hearing from you soon.
